UNI Exchange Reserves Hit Record Highs: ...

UNI Exchange Reserves Hit Record Highs: How Whales and Buybacks Could Shape UNI Price After a 112% Rally

Updated: 2026-09-24 09:26

Based on data from Gate 行情, on September 24, 2026, Uniswap 治理代币 UNI reported $8.937. The token fell 12.74% over the past 24 hours. The 24-hour high was $10.271, and the 24-hour low was $8.871. Despite a clear pullback in the short term, UNI has still risen 16.39% over the past 7 days and 112.48% over the past 30 days, and 206.31% over the past 90 days. Market cap is about $5.745 billion. 24-hour trading volume is about $24.0974 million. Total supply is 896 million UNI. Market sentiment is neutral.

The core contradiction behind this round of volatility centers on the divergence between exchange reserves and on-chain whale behavior. CryptoQuant data shows that UNI reserves on centralized exchanges have climbed to a historical high of 113.9 million UNI. At the same time, multiple newly created addresses are extracting large amounts of UNI in sync. The buyback-and-burn mechanism continues to run. However, the scale gap between the burn volume and exchange inflows clearly reveals the true state of UNI’s supply-demand structure.

Exchange Reserves Hit a Record: What 113.9 Million UNI Means

CryptoQuant data shows that UNI’s total holdings on centralized exchanges reached 113.9 million UNI, the highest record since tracking began in late 2020. This figure shows a step-like upward pattern. Since the start of 2024, the exchange balance has kept growing, surging quickly from around 100 million UNI in August.

Within centralized exchange total reserves, concentration at the top is high. As of September 23, the largest single platform held more than 73 million UNI—up roughly 18% to 19% from the prior level of about 60 million. Inflow timing also matters: on September 18, daily net inflows were about 2.6 million UNI. Then on September 22, inflows returned to about 1.89 million. For the week of September 22, average daily net inflows were about 951,249 UNI. Over the same period, UNI’s average daily on-chain exchange trading volume reached $18.8 million, up 162% from the quarterly average.

This shift closely coincides with the Fed’s September 16 rate cut of 50 basis points. Expectations for improved macro liquidity could, in the short term, pull capital toward trading platforms. CryptoOnchain’s assessment offers a historical reference: when exchange holdings and active addresses both rise—and prices refresh multi-month highs—this combination usually signals that short-term market liquidity is sufficient. It tends to support consolidation rather than immediately creating a supply crunch.

Whale Long-Short Split: Extraction and Cash-Out Run in Parallel

While exchange reserves are rising, multiple on-chain wallets carried out large-scale UNI extractions during the same period.

According to Lookonchain monitoring, three newly created addresses accumulated 782,130 UNI in the early part of this week, worth about $6.97 million. Two of the addresses withdrew a combined 652,129 UNI from multiple centralized exchanges. The third address received 130,000 UNI from Galaxy Digital. In addition, another address bought 269,477 UNI, worth about $2.84 million.

The larger single withdrawal happened on September 23. On-chain analyst "Ai Yi" monitored a new address that withdrew 1 million UNI at once from a centralized exchange, worth about $10.07 million, with an average withdrawal price of $10.07.

However, whale behavior is not one-way bullish. Wallet address 0xA799 bought UNI at $6.26 less than a week earlier and then sold 788,000 UNI at $8.85, netting roughly $2.04 million in profit. The size of this sell is nearly equal to the combined buying amount of the three new addresses. During the market downturn on September 24, another whale bought nearly 160,000 UNI for about $1.5 million, showing a clear split in strategies among different funds when prices pull back.

From the derivatives market perspective, UNI futures open interest remains around 82.83 million UNI. The funding rate is +0.0060% (every 8 hours), which annualizes to about 6.56%. Longs pay shorts. This data structure suggests the market’s overall positioning is net long, but the funding rate sits in a moderate range—there is no extreme crowding signal yet.

Buyback-and-Burn Flywheel: Real Contribution and the Efficiency Boundary

The main fundamental driver behind UNI’s recent rise comes from Uniswap’s on-chain execution of the UNIfication governance proposal in December 2025. The mechanism is designed with two contracts: TokenJar and Firepit. After protocol fees flow into TokenJar, an equivalent amount of UNI must be burned to unlock them—creating an on-chain economic loop: trades generate fees, arbitrageurs buy back and burn UNI, and circulating supply shrinks.

On July 27, 2026, the fee switch was officially activated in Uniswap v4 liquidity pools. Daily average protocol revenue rose from about $114,000 to about $325,000, covering networks including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, OP Mainnet, and Robinhood Chain.

Robinhood Chain is the core engine behind this revenue growth. The chain went live in July 2026. On September 1, daily transaction volume briefly reached $1.43 billion. Between July 27 and August 12, Uniswap’s total protocol revenue for the first seven days was about $1.55 million, of which $925,000 came from Robinhood Chain—about 60%.

In terms of burn scale, Uniswap burned about 150,000 UNI in a single day on August 21, setting a record at the time. Then on September 4, it burned 184,000 UNI, including 150,000 UNI from Robinhood Chain. Since the UNIfication launch, the cumulative burned amount has exceeded 100 million UNI.

Still, the gap between burn volume and exchange inflows deserves scrutiny. Just on September 18, centralized exchanges saw net inflows of about 2.6 million UNI—roughly 14 times the single-day burn amount on September 4. For the annualized burn rate, Geoff Kendrick, Global Head of Digital Assets Research at Standard Chartered, estimated that based on the burn speed in mid-August, UNI’s annualized burn would be about 4% of circulating supply. He believes this pace is clearly unsustainable. The buyback-and-burn mechanism provides UNI with a real value-capture path, but its current efficiency is not yet high enough to fully offset potential supply increases at the exchange level.

Robinhood Chain and Tokenized Stocks: Can Structured Revenue Take Over?

Uniswap’s growth logic is undergoing an important structural shift. Previously, the protocol’s revenue growth depended heavily on speculative trading of Meme coins on Robinhood Chain, with over 99% of its trading volume driven by this type of activity. Now the rise of tokenized stocks is providing a more durable revenue source.

Token Terminal data shows that as of September 22, about $78.2 million in tokenized stock liquidity was stored in Uniswap v2, v3, and v4 funding pools on Robinhood Chain. Deposits make up more than 99% of the network’s total. Over the past 30 days, total deposits of stock tokens on this chain grew by 532.8%.

From a trading-volume perspective, Uniswap has processed more than $2 billion worth of Robinhood stock token trades, and cumulative transaction volume for these trading pairs has exceeded $3 billion. Uniswap officially stated that its platform carries about 80% of the trading volume for Robinhood stock tokens. On the Base chain, tokenized stocks on Uniswap have exceeded $300 million in trading volume. On Circle’s Arc blockchain, Uniswap processed more than $300 million in swaps, accounting for about 84% of that chain’s DEX trading volume.

On September 17, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission granted a temporary, conditional innovation exemption. This allows tokenized securities platforms to tokenize national market system stocks through licensed automated market makers and liquidity pool transactions. This regulatory progress provides a compliance foundation for Uniswap’s expansion in the tokenized securities space.

However, a key timing milestone is approaching: Robinhood Chain’s 90-day gas subsidy expires on September 29. After the subsidy ends, users must pay Ethereum network fees themselves. Rising transaction costs may impact on-chain activity. The sustainability of protocol revenue will largely depend on whether real trading demand for tokenized stocks can continue to support trading volume after the subsidy rolls off.

Macro Backdrop and Market Correlation

UNI’s short-term pullback is not an isolated event. On September 24, Bitcoin fell from its January high of $87,000, briefly breaking below $84,000, with a 24-hour decline of about 2.55%. Ethereum also slipped to about $2,675, down about 2.76%. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields surged above 5.1%, hitting a new 19-year high. In a high-rate environment, risk assets face sustained pressure.

On the regulatory front, on September 16 the U.S. Senate voted 49-50 to fail to move forward the final debate procedure for the Clear Act. But within three days, the market largely recovered its losses. On September 22, Bitcoin briefly rose to $85,000, a new 8-month high. Market analysts believe U.S. crypto regulation is shifting from a legislative route to a rules-setting route led by the SEC and CFTC. The SEC’s innovation exemption offers a transitional compliance pathway for tokenized stock trading. Meanwhile, the CFTC is also considering using regulatory rules to fill the gaps left by stalled legislation.

Against the backdrop of gradually clearer macro liquidity expectations and regulatory rules, UNI’s supply-demand structure is at the intersection of multiple forces: exchange reserves provide potential sell-side liquidity; whale wallet divergence reflects different views on the valuation range; and buyback-and-burn offers a continuously shrinking channel for circulating supply.

Conclusion

UNI’s current core contradiction is not about a single-direction long-versus-short call. It is about the dynamic balance between forces on both the supply and demand sides. Exchange reserves hit a historical high of 113.9 million UNI, objectively expanding the base of tokens that could be sold. The buyback-and-burn mechanism provides a real value-capture path. Yet there remains a significant gap between the current annualized burn rate of about 4% and the potential increase in supply from exchanges. The structured growth of Robinhood Chain’s tokenized stocks business opens a new source of protocol revenue. But after the gas subsidy expires on September 29, changes in activity will be the first key test of whether this revenue model is sustainable. For readers focused on UNI’s supply-demand dynamics, ongoing tracking of on-chain data—such as the net inflow trend to exchanges, burn speed, and performance after Robinhood Chain’s fee drop—will provide more reference value than short-term price fluctuations.

FAQ

What does a UNI exchange reserve of 113.9 million UNI mean?

It means centralized exchanges currently hold the highest amount of UNI since CryptoQuant began tracking from late 2020. An increase in exchange reserves typically means a larger base of tokens that could be sold. However, actual sell behavior depends on holders’ decisions. High reserves and price declines are not necessarily causally linked.

Why do whales withdraw UNI when exchange reserves hit new highs?

Some whales may view the current price range as attractive for mid-term allocation, so they choose to move tokens out of exchanges for on-chain holding. On September 23, a new address withdrawing 1 million UNI from a centralized exchange is a typical example. But this does not mean all whales are bullish. At the same time, some whales cashed out around $8.85.

How does Uniswap’s buyback-and-burn mechanism work?

Protocol trading fees flow into the TokenJar contract. Anyone can burn an equal amount of UNI to unlock those fees and earn the spread. This mechanism ties protocol revenue to UNI demand. As of September, since the UNIfication launch, the cumulative burned amount has exceeded 100 million UNI. On August 21, around 150,000 UNI were burned in a single day.

Why did UNI rise more than 112% over the past 30 days?

Multiple factors came together: after Uniswap’s fee switch was activated, the protocol’s average daily revenue rose from about $114,000 to about $325,000; trading volume for Robinhood Chain tokenized stocks grew rapidly; the SEC granted an innovation exemption for tokenized stock trading; and a compliant derivatives market plan launched UNI futures. These factors together pushed the market to reprice UNI’s value-capture ability.
